March 15, 2015 was a foggy day. 37 students, teachers and alumni joined a field trip, organized by the Hiking Club, to Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve. Meandering up a slope, the trail travels deep into thick forests. This is an excellent spot to study sub-tropical forest ecology. The towering trees and other plants take up different levels of the forest with climbers crawling up tree branches to compete for sunlight. Shrubs that can better adapt to dim conditions form the understorey. On the ground, there are ferns, mosses and lichens which can survive in an extremely dim environment. A stroll on this trail is wonderfully relaxed, in which you can listen to sweet songs of birds. The trip ended at Tai Po Market MTR Station with joy.
